Carpentry is the art of turning lifeless things into beautiful structures. These artists are highly skilled in crafting, building, installing, and repairing broken structures. Roles and Responsibilities
- Preparing the site, taking measurements, and analysing material requirements for woodwork
- Take measurements and accordingly cut, shape and smooth the raw materials
- Installing and fitting fixtures like handles, locks and hinges
- Building frames, windows, and doors using raw materials or pre-constructed items
- Preparing a plan of action for the cabinetry designs and installing it accordingly
- Studying the blueprints made by the architects
- Finding wood that is the right size, strength, and price for woodworking and joinery projects
- Taking a look at additional carpentry and joinery renovations
- Installing siding, flooring, and built-ins as part of finishing carpentry
- Client, supplier, and tradesman liaison
- Plan flooring, roofing, and drywall, ensuring each is level and compatible with one other

Educational Qualification
- For Junior Carpenters – 5 GCSEs or equivalents, which include English and maths, a basic vocational diploma or a City and Guilds certification
- For Senior Carpenters – Level 2 Diploma in Bench Joinery or Level 2 or Level 3 Diploma in Carpentry and Joinery
- The Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) is a bonus for those applying for construction jobs
Skills
- Mathematical skills
- Excellent coordination of eye and hand
- Good physical condition and endurance
- Proficient in using electrical and manual equipment and measurement tools (powered saws, hammers, rulers etc.)
- Ability to read technical documents and drawings
- Willingness to follow safety guidelines at all times
- Understanding of building regulations
