Understanding the Role of a Care Assistant

Job Summary

We are seeking compassionate and dedicated Domiciliary Care Assistants to provide high-quality in-home care to individuals with diverse needs. This role involves supporting clients with daily activities, ensuring their safety, and promoting independence within their homes and communities. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in senior care, disability support, or home health services, along with a genuine desire to make a positive impact on clients’ lives.

Duties

  • Assist with daily living activities such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility support
  • Provide specialised care for individuals with Alzheimer’s, dementia, or other cognitive impairments
  • Support patients with medication administration following prescribed guidelines
  • Prepare nutritious meals tailored to dietary needs and preferences
  • Engage clients in meaningful activities to promote mental and emotional well-being
  • Manage behaviour challenges with patience and effective behaviour management techniques
  • Drive clients to appointments or outings safely and responsibly
  • Monitor health status and report any concerns to healthcare professionals or family members
  • Maintain accurate documentation of care provided and any changes in condition
  • Perform light housekeeping tasks to ensure a clean and safe environment

Experience

  • Prior experience in assisted living, long-term care, home & community care, or nursing home settings is highly desirable
  • Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities, autism spectrum disorder, dementia, or memory care needs is preferred
  • Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and patient confidentiality standards is essential
  • Proven ability to perform patient observation and monitoring in a compassionate manner
  • Hands-on experience with medication administration, vital signs measurement, and use of mobility aids such as Hoyer lifts is advantageous
  • Background in caregiving roles involving Alzheimer’s care or hospice care will be considered a plus
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently while maintaining excellent communication skills with team members and clients alike
